简介：With the ever-increasing amount of data generated in today’s internet-based society, data is at the centre of the today’s and the future economy. Particularly, urban multimodal transportation is one of the most comprehensive big data settings in the big data world. In addition to sensor data from infrastructure, vast amounts of mobility data are generated by GPS navigation devices and mobile phones. This lecture will introduce the concept of big data as well as its advantages, challenges and future prospects, particularly in transportation. Two case studies on GPS data and mobile phone data respectively, will further manifest the practical relevance of the data. On top of that, the case studies will demonstrate how big data could provide radical new ways of understanding social and individual behaviour and be utilized as a key contributor to innovation in transportation.
